NEW MOON PHASE
The New Moon phase is one where an entire, roughly 28-day lunation cycle has ended, and a new one is beginning. It is the darkest phase of the Moon because it is when the Sun and the Moon are exactly conjunct (together) blocking the light beginning a new cycle.
The New Moon phase begins the waxing phase, which progresses to the Full Moon phase. So, a new waxing phase of the Moon is beginning, but the light is blocked because the Sun and the Moon are together. Even though a new cycle is beginning, it’s still a dark phase. We’re still wandering in the unknown, in the dark forest.
Because it’s the darkest phase, New Moons are generally great times for envisioning, planting new seeds, brainstorming, and letting ideas brew underneath.
Ideas are brewing underneath, but it’s not necessarily a time to take action on those ideas. When the Moon moves into its Crescent phase, that’s a more favorable time to take action on the ideas that are brewing during the New Moon phase. However, if you feel strongly about taking a certain action during the New Moon phase, then always listen to your intuition first and foremost.
It can be common to feel tired, lethargic or exhausted during the New Moon phase because it is the darkest phase of the Moon. So, even though New Moons are great for planting new seeds, if you don’t have the energy or feel like there’s anything new you want to plant during this New Moon, then that’s completely okay. You don’t have to plant new seeds or set new intentions for every New Moon just because it’s a New Moon.
Always listen to you, your body, and your intuition, which is more important. You’re not missing out on anything if you don’t participate in New Moon “manifestations.” If you are feeling like setting new intentions, then you can use most New Moons to do that. The only New Moons you don’t necessarily want to do that on are eclipse New Moons…
