MOON IN AQUARIUS AND LEO: SHINING IN YOUR UNIQUE WAY

Aquarius and Leo are opposite signs, but opposite signs aren’t actually opposite in the way we usually think of opposite in terms of being different. Opposite signs, as I mentioned with Cancer and Capricorn, have the most in common in astrology. Opposite signs mirror each other.

Leo is a fire sign. Aquarius is an air sign. Fire and air signs are both diurnal signs, meaning daytime signs (water and earth are nocturnal). Leo and Aquarius are also fixed signs, and fixed signs are good at working on the same thing consistently over time, whereas cardinal and mutable signs get bored doing the same thing for too long and need more spice and variety in their life.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, and Aquarius is ruled by Saturn (not Uranus) in Hellenistic astrology. Hellenistic astrology created an organized, sophisticated system of planets ruling signs based on the seven traditional planets (including the luminaries: the Sun & the Moon) that you can see with the naked eye. Each planet except for the the Sun and Moon (which rule one sign each) rule two signs. Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius.

Because Aquarius is the opposite sign of Leo, where the Sun is at home or in its domicile, Aquarius is where the Sun is in its detriment. As I mentioned in this post with Capricorn being the sign of the Moon’s detriment, when a planet is in the sign of its “fall” or “detriment,” it means that the way it goes about things is different.

Aquarians have a different way of thinking about and doing things. Their interesting mind and qualities come from Saturn. Traditionally, Saturn was associated with being an outsider, a “weirdo,” different, quirky. We tend to think of Aquarians as quirky, and they are because of Saturn.

Like Aquarius, Leo has an association with the mind as well, as it’s ruled by the Sun. Ancient Astrologer, Vettius Valens said that the Sun “consists of fiery and intelligent light, the instrument of perception of the soul.” The Sun can point us to where our intelligence lies and how our soul wants to use this as part of living out its multiple purposes.

Because it’s ruled by the Sun, Leo gets stereotyped as wanting to be in the spotlight or be the center of attention. Leos can have a magnetism to them that attracts a crowd, an audience or large following.

Some Leos are afraid of the spotlight though, and this is something for them to work on, as their soul came here to learn how to shine brightly and express themselves fully while receiving attention.

Leo shines when they’re taking courage to embrace their whole self, celebrate all of who they are, and express themself in creative and bright ways.

Aquarius doesn’t need as much of the theatrical spotlight as Leo, and tends to shine in “airy” environments like academia, technology, education, organizations, the library (shoutout to my Aquarian mom who was a librarian). Aquarius shines looking to find solutions to progress society forward and build a better future.

Both Leo and Aquarius are unique, need to be their own person, do things their way, and have outlets for expressing themselves.
