OLD SOULS ARE HERE TO PRIORITIZE LEARNING, ENJOYMENT, AND REST

Do you feel like an old soul? Do you feel like you’re interested in many, different pursuits and have a hard time deciding what to focus on?

I’ve been studying old souls for years now (most of my astrology clients are old souls), and what I’ve noticed is that our core purposes in this life are focused on learning, enjoyment, and rest. But, many old souls need to be reminded of this regularly.

Maybe you feel like a “failure” or like you haven’t really “gotten anywhere in life” because you haven’t had a singular focus. This is not a failure, and there is nowhere to get to. Old souls are here to pursue a variety of interests for the sake of learning and joy, and do not have a destination.

There are some people in life who have more of a singular focus. Many of these people are young souls. Young souls need more singularity in their life because it makes them feel safe and secure. Young souls are more afraid of people and of life, and so they cling to illusions of safety and security with a singular track mind.

But, old souls have been around a long time, and have lived, perhaps, hundreds of lives at this point. Throughout the numerous, various lives we have lived, we have had a lot of different experiences. These experiences have broadened our minds and interests. We cannot do only one thing throughout our life. We are not interested in such a thing.

The older the soul, the more the life purpose has to do with rest, enjoyment, and learning. This is why you’ll see many old souls pursuing degrees in higher education that have nothing to do with getting a “good job.” Old souls tend to major in things like gender studies, sociology, anthropology, literature, creative writing, philosophy, environmental justice, history, etc. We don’t go to academia to get a job, we go to learn. Learning is a foundational experience of old souls. Working a job is a foundational experience of young souls.

An old soul’s purpose is to simply enjoy life. Learning for the sake of learning, and not for the sake of a job, is part of our enjoyment in life. Old souls have a variety of hobbies that we tend to be passionate about. Expressing our passion for what lights our spirit up is a huge part of our purpose as we live the last remaining years (or year) of our soul’s journey on this Earth.

Since we’ve been around a long, long time, our soul is now in the “pure enjoyment” phase of life. We need to engage with our hobbies more than we need to engage with work.

Many of us are doing work that feels like a hobby, and that’s exactly how it should be. Old souls need to be doing work that we’re deeply passionate about. Work that excites us. It may not excite us constantly (because that’s life), but more often than not, we are energized by the work we are doing. And, if we’re not, then we need to re-focus and make some meaningful changes.

Old souls are not likely to be happy working a 9-5 job. Most of us are not interested in working for others, thus, many of us need to have our own businesses and be our own boss. Working for other people’s vision is not our purpose anymore, that’s a younger soul’s purpose. Old souls need to work for their vision. Of course, old souls can collaborate and work with others, but freedom and autonomy need to be at the center.

If we start to feel stifled, suffocated, or controlled by others, our spirit will start to wither away. We must prioritize our own freedom, independence, autonomy, and enjoyment for our whole well being. If we go into business with others, it must be the right fit on multiple levels, and it must be with other old souls who share our values.

For old souls, enjoyment is on our compass, and that includes the kind of work that we do as well. Rest is also on our compass because, we’re fucking old and we’re fucking tired.

We are tired of all the bullshit in the world. We can be easily irritated by the mundane experiences in life. We tend to be sensitive and have immense empathy for people. We have zero tolerance for injustices and inequities.

We have lived so many lives, been a number of different people living in different places having all kinds of experiences. We’ve learned a lot. All of it has given us more empathy, compassion and a desire to make things better.

And, we’re tired. If you feel a fatigue that’s beyond the physical, you’re not alone. Old soul fatigue is real. Old souls can have a strong irritation with life from the utter mundane to any kind of oppression.

We need to prioritize rest, get lot of sleep, and spend plenty of time napping, lounging, daydreaming, and doing nothing. This doesn’t mean we get complacent and not show up trying to make meaningful changes in the world, but that getting the rest that we need helps us in creating and embodying our values of equity, inclusion, and liberation.

Rest, enjoyment, and learning is what we old souls are here to do. There is no singular focus or purpose, but don’t let that confuse you. You know, in your heart and hearts, and deep within your spirit, your purpose. All you have to do is remember that your purpose doesn’t fit into society’s conditioning. It doesn’t look like young soul purpose.

Remember your soul origins.
