THE POWER OF ECLIPSES: TURNING POINTS AND TRANSITIONS

Eclipses mark important turning points in our lives. They mark endings, beginnings, and new chapters.

The lunar nodes, the North Node and the South Node define eclipses. The nodes are points, not planets, in space where the path of the Sun and the path of the Moon cross. The nodes are the points where the eclipses occur. The nodes are always in two opposing signs lasting for about a year and a half before they move on to the next set of two signs.

Eclipses usually come in pairs of opposite signs, and occur six months apart from each other. But, some eclipse seasons are transitional where one eclipse cycle is ending and another one is beginning. In which case, we would have an eclipse in a sign from the previous cycle, and one from the new cycle like we had in March 2025 with an eclipse in Virgo (the new cycle) and an eclipse in Aries (the last eclipse from the previous cycle).

An eclipse is when the Sun and the Moon come into alignment in both longitude and latitude, when the Moon crosses the path of the Sun. Eclipses are like amplified New Moons and amplified Full Moons. A solar eclipse is when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun blocking it, which is a New Moon eclipse. A lunar eclipse is when the earth's shadow blocks the face of the Moon causing it to darken, and this is a Full Moon eclipse. A New Moon eclipse and a Full Moon eclipse happen within two weeks of each other, just like regular New Moons and Full Moons. Generally speaking, we have eclipse season twice a year. An eclipse season is a month-long period beginning one week before the first eclipse, and lasting until a week after the second eclipse. So, roughly, two months out of the year we are in eclipse season.

Eclipses are thought of as fated events that take place in our lives. Ancient astrologers saw them as a time to hunker down, and let fate run its course, because what happens during the eclipse season is largely out of our control. Astrologer, S.J. Anderson describes eclipses as “accelerated fatedness. Things get wonky and strange. Reality changes and inverts. They're a clue that reality is different than it normally is.”

Weird events and experiences can happen during eclipse season. It can feel like a “darker” time because the light is blocked, and darker, more challenging things happen in the world during this time. Unfortunately, there are often tragic events that happen in the world like natural disasters or wars. Ancient astrologers saw eclipses as indicating the death of a king, ruler, or leader of some kind. Ancient astrologers associated the Sun with queens, kings, and leaders, so when we have an eclipse, and the light of the Sun is blocked, this can often indicate the death of a ruler or some kind of leader. There are a strikingly number of examples of leaders that were born during eclipse season that, then, die during an eclipse season.

Eclipses don't always indicate dark or challenging things happening in one’s personal life, however. They represent major endings, and major beginnings related to your soul’s journey. Often times, endings are a challenging experience even if the thing ending is something that better supports yourself. And, when something ends, something else begins. Thus, eclipses can signify the beginning of something positive and beneficial in your life that your soul came here to do.

Eclipses can be a time where one chapter ends and a new one begins, especially for those that were born during an eclipse season. If you were born during eclipse season, then eclipses will be more impactful for you, and when eclipses happens, those could be some of the most defining moments of your life. Ancient astrologers believed in fate, and that what happens during eclipse season is outside of our control. A lot of what happens during eclipse season isn’t planned, but is fate swooping in putting you on the next path that your soul wants to take.

Eclipses can accelerate certain events in our life. For example, maybe you didn’t plan on getting pregnant yet, but, all of a sudden, you are. Or, you, spontaneously, meet your soulmate. Or, you have a deep epiphany about yourself that changes your whole life. You might have had a plan for your life, but then an eclipse put you on a new path, or one that was different from what you thought, or your path got accelerated.

Pay attention to both internal and external shifts that happen in your life during eclipse season, endings and new beginning, however small they may seem. Sometimes, a small seed is planted around an eclipse that then grows into something much bigger in your life over the course of months and years.

I started my astrology newsletter years ago, on the day of an eclipse. I didn’t plan it, but on that day, I felt propelled to start writing and sent my first astrology newsletter. This small action began a new chapter in my life that has been blossoming ever since, and is connected to my soul's desire. This is what eclipses and the lunar nodes do. They point to a new path.

Eclipses activate spiritual turning points of your soul's desire. These turning points can show up as external events like a change in your career, relationship, or living situation, and/or they can show up as an internal discovery, where, all of a sudden, you feel different.

All of a sudden, you desire something different or new. Or, your perspective on something has completely changed. Pay attention to the entire month of eclipse season. What is going on for you during this time? Are there external changes like a new job, living situation, or relationship? Or, is it more internal, where you're feeling or thinking differently?

Eclipses are moments of growth. They reveal how you’ve grown over the years, as well as what you’re growing into. They can spark the release of something that is no longer growing with you in order to propel you forward.

My suggestion for working with eclipse energy is to schedule less, rest more, ease stress, and expect wonkiness, Because eclipses can spark unexpected and surprising changes in our lives, you’ll want to wear your adaptive gear and be flexible when you need to be. Eclipse season can be chaotic and tiring. It can zap your energy. Our sources of light and vitality, the Sun and the Moon, are blocked during eclipses, and this can make us more tired and sleepy. Try to spend more time resting, sleeping and relaxing. You might find that you have trouble sleeping during eclipses, so you’ll need extra time to nap and rest when you aren’t able to sleep much through the night. Stay hydrated and focus more on what feels nourishing to your body.

Eclipses can stir new changes in your life, and having extra down time and rest can be immensely supportive for your body, your nervous system and your soul to adapt to any new changes that arise.

Eclipses affect everyone differently, and not everyone’s life is disrupted by them. Everyone is affected by them, but in different ways. Eclipses might affect someone close to you, which, in turn, impacts you, and might require you to adapt to something new. You could be affected by these upcoming eclipses from having a spiritual epiphany or feeling inspired to start a new business! It can absolutely be a positive turning point for you. I invite you to be curious about what this time in your life is signifying for you. If you have planets or your rising sign in the signs where the eclipses are happening, then these eclipses will be more potent for you.
