HOW YOUR BIRTH CHART HELPS YOU EMBRACE ALL OF WHO YOU ARE
One of the beautiful things about astrology is how it helps us reclaim all parts of ourselves. Your birth chart reveals the multiple layers that make up who you are as well as the different aspects and experiences in your life. Your chart also reveals other people in your life, and major events and themes your soul is working with in this life.
Your birth chart is a representation of your life. It reveals you and your personality, but also other people in your life, people who are important and significant in your life, whether they're significant in a challenging way, a beneficial way, or both. Your birth chart reveals your career tendencies and interests, your relationships, your partners, the kind of people you are in relationship with, your friendships, your business partnerships if you have any, your hobbies, your children (if you have children), your siblings (if you have siblings), your ancestors, your parents, the challenges in your life, your shared resources, your hopes and your dreams.
There are many layers that make up who you are, the life you live, and how you’re interconnected with other souls. There are always more layers to unravel in your birth chart because the planets in your chart represent a variety of traits, experiences, and themes. As you live more life, you become more aware of yourself, your interests and hobbies change, your career path changes, your relationships change, and how you identify with self changes. Through the many changes of life, you’re able to unlock more nuances that your birth chart reveals. This is why it’s helpful to get an astrology reading at least once a year.
While your birth chart is always the same, the planets are nuanced and reflect all of the different versions of you and your life within this one life. No matter how long one has been into astrology, or been an astrologer, there are always more layers and nuances to explore within the birth chart. Studying your birth chart can help you become more aware of yourself and your life. The more layers you unravel, the more in awe you are at how your birth chart reflects who you are, how you are, the important people in your life, the challenges you experience, and the joys and fortunate experiences you have. It's amazing. The cosmos are amazing. What these planets signify in our lives is quite astonishing.
But what if you don’t resonate with your signs? Maybe you don’t resonate with your Sun, Rising, and/or Moon sign? There could be several reasons for that. One being that you’ve only heard negative stereotypes associated with that sign, and you don’t feel like that fits you. Another, being that you haven’t learned all of the different traits and meanings of that sign and how it does actually describe you and your life. Or, systemic oppression and social conditioning hasn’t allowed you to embrace certain parts of yourself.
We’ve been taught to primarily look at our Sun sign and think of ourselves as our Sun sign. This is because the Sun sign is the easiest one to find, all you need to know is your date of birth. The Sun is the most accessible planet, if you will, for getting a glimpse into who you are. However, you are so much more than your Sun sign, and only paying attention to your Sun sign is a limited perspective and understanding of yourself and your life. You are also your Rising sign and your Moon sign, and all the other planets. Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn - all of these planets that you can see with the naked eye reveal different aspects of who you are and your life.
If you haven't resonated with your Sun sign as much, then that’s because you are much more than your Sun sign. For example, you might be a Gemini Sun, but you've never related to the stereotype of Gemini. Perhaps people have talked about Geminis as being two-faced, flaky and easily distracted, but you don't feel like that's you. Your Rising sign, Moon sign, and/or the planet that rules your Rising sign might describe who you are and resonate better with you. Thus, you’ll want to get curious about your Rising, Moon, and the other planets in your chart in order to get a more complete picture of who you are. Not everyone is going to fit the stereotypes of their signs. But, even if you don't resonate with the stereotypes of your signs, there are still aspects of those signs that are you. You might not be aware of them yet, or perhaps you haven't learned what those are.
Your Sun sign definitely describes a big part of you, and it's not the whole picture. You also might look at your Rising or Moon sign and go, well, I don't resonate with that either. But, I guarantee you that there are aspects of each of those signs that are you, and I would encourage you to go deeper, and learn the nuances and different layers of each of these signs and what they represent. Once I started learning more about my Rising sign and how that does describe me as well as my Moon sign, I was able to see more of myself, and that’s a powerful thing. I was able to see more of how I’m wired, the kind of life I am drawn to living, and what’s important to me.
For example, I'm Cancer rising, and for a long time, I didn't really know exactly what that meant, but, then, when I started learning more about Cancer and its ruler, the Moon, I realized that Cancer and the Moon are exactly me. Not everybody sees that part of me though. Some astrologers say that your Rising sign is how you come across to other people, but that’s not always the case. Different people get different parts of us depending on the situation, depending on what environment or situation you are in, and your mood, for example. It’s not that people always get your Rising sign or that that's how you always come across to other people. Sometimes, people won’t get your Rising sign or other parts of you until they get to know you on a deeper level, or unless they live with you.
Different parts of yourself and your birth chart will come to the forefront more depending on the situation you are in at any given time. Not everyone is able to see all aspects of who you are. It’s not until you take the time and attention to look beneath the surface of someone that you can truly see all the different parts of them, all the nuances and layers. Since becoming an astrologer and learning people's charts, I’ve started seeing folks for all the different layers that their chart reveals beyond their Sun sign.
Obviously, that’s easier for me to do as an astrologer, but you can do this too with your friends, partners, and loved ones. You can get to know their “Big 3” (Rising, Sun, Moon) as a place to start, learn more about those signs, and notice how they describe your loved ones and their lives. This can be a fun exercise, but it’s also an opportunity to go deeper in your relationships. We want to be seen for ALL of who we are, and it is a gift when someone truly sees you, the various, beautiful, complex layers that make up who you are. And, the beautiful thing about astrology is how much the planets illuminate about your soul’s personality, desires, intentions, journey, and interconnectedness. There is always more to explore with your birth chart.
