JUPITER IN CANCER: LIFE GIVING, ROMANCE, NURTURING, AND LIFTING OUR SPIRITS

Jupiter moving into Cancer on June 9th is my favorite transit of the year as it poses great benefits because Jupiter is exalted in Cancer! When a planet is in the sign of its exaltation, it’s able to bring out the best qualities of that sign. Jupiter in Cancer will be, especially, beneficial for Cancer Risings, Suns, and Moons, but it will be wonderful for all of us because whether you have planets in Cancer or not, you're going to benefit from the nurturing energy of Jupiter in Cancer over the next year. Jupiter in Cancer is creative, intuitive, generous, abundant, expansive, and supportive.

Jupiter is the giving of life. So is the Moon. Jupiter in the Moon’s sign, Cancer, is ultra life giving. The Moon makes life habitable, thus Cancer is the sign of inhabiting life in a body here on Earth. Katie Ellen Hazeldean from their website, True Tarot Tales, says, "Neoplatonic Chaldean philosophy said that the souls of those about to be born descend to Earth through the constellation of Cancer.” Cancer is associated with the birth of humans, and the Moon ruling Cancer is associated with "mother" and creation.

Chris Brennan, in his book, Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune, shares 2nd Century astrologer, Vettius Valens’s description of Jupiter,

“The star of Jupiter signifies the begetting of children, child-birth, desire, love, alliances, knowledge, friendship with great men, abundance, payments, large gifts, an abundance of profits, justice, authorities, governments, honors, heads of holy places, arbitration of disputes, trusts, inheritances, brotherhood, fellowship, adoption, confirmation of good things, relief from bad things, release from bonds, freedom, entrustments, wealth, stewardship. Of the parts of the body, he is lord of the outer thighs, the feet (for which reason it also produces running in athletic contests). Internally, it is the lord of semen, the womb, the liver, parts on the right side of the body. Of substances, he rules tin. He is of the diurnal sect, grey and mostly white in color, and sweet in taste.”

We can see themes of life, abundance, resources, and fortune similar to the Moon as well. These themes are going to be more prominent with Jupiter in Cancer. Jupiter has its joy in the 11th house, which is known in Hellenistic astrology as “the house of good spirit.” With the various geopolitical situations, it’s easy to feel our spirits break, but Jupiter in the sign of its exaltation LIFTS our spirits. Saturn in Aries is about decay and what is falling away, while Jupiter in Cancer is about LIFE and birthing new things into existence. Jupiter in Cancer creates life and nurtures our spirit.

As a cardinal, water sign, Cancer needs to create. It has an incessant desire and need to birth new creations, to bring things into existence as part of embodying our creative spirit. Jupiter in Cancer is creating new life, and nurturing the life that you birth, whether that’s human beings, a home, a business, art, a creative project, a garden or sanctuary, your body, animals, etc.

As a water sign ruled by the Moon, Cancer is romantic and wants to live a romantic life. Jupiter in Cancer is reminding us to have a romantic connection with life, inviting us to fall in love with life, to fall in love with each other, and invoke romance into our everyday lives. Romance isn’t only meant to be shared with your partner, it’s a spiritual, sensual experience that you can have with yourself, with a friend, with nature, with the stars, with food, and your body, etc…

Cancer is intuitive, and in touch with the sensitivity of its environment, emotions, and life. As a nocturnal sign, there is depth, reflection, going inward, and connecting with the more quiet, spiritual, unseen parts of life. Cancer is associated with the crab. This is a sign that often puts on an armor because of its ability to absorb other’s emotions easily, and needs a safe place to retreat. Cancer wants to retreat into its home and comfort zone, and with Jupiter there, it might be feeling more homebound, but it could also feel more expansive and safe to emerge from its shell and connect more with others.

Jupiter’s joy in the 11th house is also associated with friends, community, and alliances. Jupiter in Cancer wants to connect more with people and celebrate life, and its dreams. The 11th house of Jupiter is also our hopes, visions, and dreams for our life. Jupiter in Cancer invites us to dream of a more matriarchal and supportive life together, to envision societies that center on everyone getting the nurturing and resources that they need, AND being able to flourish. Jupiter in Cancer is concerned with everyone’s physical and emotional well being.

The Moon and Cancer have a strong connection to home, body, environment, our needs, nourishment, nurturing, and the “mother.” Cancer connects us to our body, with the source of life, and feeling safe, physically and emotionally. Cancers are homebodies who need to feel at home in the world. Jupiter here can add abundance and blessings to matters of the home and family life. It can have one feeling more at home in the world when one has struggled to feel at home anywhere, whether that’s feeling at home in one’s body or environment, or even on this planet, Earth.

Astrologer, Adam Elenbaas, said this about Cancer,

"How do we live a kind of romantic life that's able to see with appreciation and awe the patterns of eternity? It's about spiritually staying connected and somehow at home as a spiritual being in a material body. And it's also about living a human life where one of the most important things is that we feel connected, nurtured, and supported emotionally, that we're here to live a relational existence. Cancer is always teaching us how to stay connected through sweetness in life and bonded, how to create safety and connection, how to feel at home in the universe."

It's tough to be a spiritual being in a human body and feel at home here on Earth when we old souls with social justice values cannot comprehend the enormity of violence inflicted in this world. We need to tap into Cancer, into Jupiter in Cancer. We need this deep nurturing and feeling connected to one another, to our bodies, to our emotions, and our source.

Ruled by the Moon, Cancer is focused on creating a nurturing space where it and its loved ones can thrive. Cancer isn’t only concerned with itself and its closest people feeling at home, it wants everyone to have a home and feel at home. Cancer wants humanity to thrive and be well, and for all humans to have everything that they need. This is what Jupiter wants as well. Jupiter wants abundance, wealth, and resources for all. Jupiter in Cancer wants everyone to be safe, well resourced, and experience good fortune.

Jupiter in Cancer is inviting you to learn more about what you need to be nurtured. If you are someone who is used to nurturing others a lot, then this is an opportunity to get the nurturing that you need, and to allow yourself to be nurtured by others. This energy is supporting us to connect with each other, and help each other get our needs met. During hard times, Jupiter in Cancer invites us to pool our resources together and support each other, not just help each other survive, but flourish.

Are there changes you need to make in your life to better support you? Get curious, try new support systems or tools, and pay attention to what makes you feel nurtured and nourished in your body, heart, mind, and soul.

Cancer pays attention to things that many miss. As a water sign, Cancer feels, senses, and absorbs. Cancers are emotional because they feel things easily, they're empaths who absorb other people's emotions. Jupiter in Cancer can increase empathy and compassion, and it can be loose with boundaries. This is where Saturn in Aries can come in and be helpful. Saturn is boundaries, and Aries is honest about what it needs. Saturn in Aries, ultimately, does have the “upper hand” over Jupiter in Cancer, which can be helpful in setting useful boundaries if you’re absorbing too much energy from others or your environment.

Both Jupiter and the Moon are associated with travel. You might feel like traveling more over the next year, or even embarking on a big move. The Moon is wanderings, so you might feel like “wandering” more, going on more adventures, and seeking out new environments. Jupiter’s year in Cancer coincides with Saturn in Aries, and Saturn is in its fall in Aries. Often times when a planet is in the sign of its fall or detriment, it’s going about things in a different or alternative way. It’s away from home because it’s either opposite its home sign or opposite its sign of exaltation, which can often translate to literal travel away from one’s home. So, with both of the transits of Saturn in Aries and Jupiter in Cancer, travel could be a big theme over the next year.

Obviously, travel is often a privilege, and there are a lot of political issues with travel right now, so not everyone will be traveling more. But, perhaps Jupiter in Cancer will help smooth out some of the political issues surrounding travel, and, certainly, travel will be more of a topic in general. For those who are not able to travel or don’t want to travel, one might feel inspired to invoke a sense of adventure to one’s home or have more staycations over the next year while Jupiter is in Cancer.

Jupiter in Cancer eases the harshness of Saturn in Aries still offering us opportunities for growth, nurturing, and abundance. Jupiter in Cancer can offer an abundance of opportunities, but that doesn’t mean that every opportunity is right for you. It can also make the unfavorable options at your feet seem more favorable than they actually are. Saturn in Aries’ discernment pulls us to come back to what we truly need for ourselves, and set necessary boundaries. Saturn in Aries is about less is more, and Jupiter in Cancer is about more is more, more abundance, generosity, expansion, growth, and life. Jupiter in Cancer is expansive, inclusive, and generous. Both Saturn in Aries and Jupiter in Cancer are a time of exploring new possibilities, experiences, and horizons.
