In some ways, it feels odd to talk about pleasure given the political climate that we are in, but I know that pleasure is essential to not only thriving, but surviving. Pleasure and joy must be part of our foundation to help sustain us in our lives and in the political struggles we face. Taurus energy can speak to this note about how joy in and of itself may not be an act of resistance, but rather joy is what motivates, inspires, and sustains us showing up for resistance and taking action. “Just joy alone will not build the world we want to see. But we cannot build that world without joy.” - Ben Greene

So, now that we’re in Taurus Season, let’s talk about Taurus and its ruler, Venus. Taurus is the fixed, nocturnal, earth sign of Venus, and where the Moon is exalted. Venus is the planet of beauty, pleasure, joy, creativity, art, and sensuality. Taurus is a slow and steady, sensual sign that’s in touch with the beauty, pleasures, and sensuality of life. Being an earth sign where the Moon is exalted, and ruled by Venus, Taurus is in touch with the pleasures and the senses of the body. Tauruses love sensual touch, physical affection, and needs physical affection.

Taurus reminds us to be in touch with slowness and sensuality. In our fast pace, capitalistic world, we're not taught to be led by Venus, and, therefore, it can be hard to allow ourselves to be led by the beauty, creativity, and sensuality of Venus. Patriarchy and capitalism oppress Venusian ways and experiences, but Venus and Taurus remind us that pleasure is inherent in who we are as humans, and if we center true pleasure, not patriarchal pleasure, then, we and our world would be more nourished. The Moon being exalted in Taurus reminds us of the nourishment we need, and inspires us to get creative about how we can nourish each other during difficult times.

As a fixed, earth sign, Taurus is the slowest sign of the zodiac because it's trying to enjoy the pleasures of life, the pleasures of the body, and this requires slowing down and savoring life. Taurus does move, however, and gets a lot done. Taurus is consistent and reliable, as all earth and fixed signs tend to be, and is good at showing up day in and day out, continuing to do its thing. But, you can't rush a Taurus as Taurus needs to do things on its own time. Venus has a slow sensual relationship with time. Tauruses earthy, fixed nature gives them endurance. When Taurus commits to something, it likes to see it through, and is focused on showing up for their passions and commitments on a consistent basis.

Venus has the desire is to connect and harmonize. The Moon wants to include. With Venus and the Moon both being rulers of Taurus, we are being invited to connect more with what Venus and the Moon represent. With the earthy nature of Taurus, this energy invites us to be more thoughtful about using the resources of the earth, and have a more harmonious relationship with each other and nature. Venus is relationships, friendships, and connection. Venus reminds us to value our relationships with each other, to value art, beauty, nature, sensuality, and pleasure. Taurus has a love of music, film, tv, photography, and all kinds of art. Some Tauruses loves to go to art museums, study art, or are artists themselves. Taurus appreciates the beauty of life, art, nature, and the earth.

The Moon is nourishment, nurturing, resources, our body, and home. Part of why the Moon is exalted in Taurus is because Taurus is a centered, stable sign where the Moon can get its needs met, where the Moon can nurture and be nurtured. The Moon can have the support that it needs in Taurus. Stability is important here, and being able to sustain and nurture something solid and stable for a long period of time. Taurus is good at nurturing the seeds that it plants. This is why you will see a lot of Taurus people interested in gardening, taking care of plants, taking care of the earth, taking care of our physical world and physical things, and the beauty of our physical earth.

As a sensual, beauty ruled earth sign, Taurus tends to be a lover of plants, the earth, and earthly pleasures. A lot of Tauruses love to garden, have many plants in their house, or always like to have a fresh bouquet of flowers. Taurus can have a desire to grow their own food with little gardens in their backyard, or growing their own herbs. Taurus has a strong association with food because Venus is pleasure, and the Moon is food and nourishment. Taurus loves food, and has a strong, particular relationship with food. Taurus can be foodies, enjoy going out to eat, and/or cooking, prefer to get together with friends over food, and they could even have studied food, or do work that revolves around food in some way.

Getting more in touch with Venus and the Moon is part of unlearning systemic oppression and oppressive social conditioning. These are ways to liberate ourselves from oppression, from society's constraints. Taurus reminds us to embody our values. What do we really value, and are we embodying that?

Taurus season reminds us to slow down and enjoy the slow pleasures of life. Stop and smell the tulips. Luxuriate in good food, drink, music, art, and what soothes you. This is the season to nurture the seeds you’ve been planting, and delight in the everyday pleasures of the body and life.

Enjoy your body. Enjoy life. Enjoy pleasure.
